Developing scientific and technological cooperation between the Center for Vietnam S&T Internationalization Promotion (VISTIP) the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD)

At the invitation of the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), on August 23, 2022 in Hanoi, the Center for Vietnam S&T Internationalization Promotion (VISTIP), led by Mrs. Bui Thi Huy Hop – Deputy Director in charge, visited and worked with the representative of IRD in Hanoi. Dr. Edmond Dounias – Chief Representative of IRD in Vietnam and the Philippines chaired the meeting with VISTIP. The two sides discussed some cooperation issues

At the meeting, representatives of IRD and VISTIP together exchanged and updated information on research and prioritized orientation in their research cooperation. The two sides have actively discussed specific cooperation activities that can be carried out in the near future; exchange possibilities of IRD and VISTIP to cooperate in participating in programs and projects in the fields of science and technology, social science, agriculture, connecting partners to implement multilateral science and technology cooperation activities. … serve the goal of sustainable development in Vietnam and the region. In the immediate future, the two sides will prioritize cooperation activities to organize scientific and technological events to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France in May 2023; jointly develop a number of programs, projects and training courses in Vietnam that IRD has strengths in expert/expertise and suitable to the needs of Vietnam.

Dr. Edmond Dounias wished that VISTIP will be an important partner acting as a bridge between IRD and partners, agencies, ministries, localities, businesses and the Vietnamese S&T Institutions in research and development cooperation activities. IRD is a multidisciplinary research and development organization, so becoming a strategic partner of each other was also discussed and agreed by the two sides about forming a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides next time.

With the functions and tasks assigned by the Minister of Science and Technology to be a bridge between the domestic and international S&T institutions, supporting enterprises to apply advanced technologies, VISTIP will research and discuss further with IRD to find out how to effectively implement the orientations and cooperation goals set by the two sides. Mrs. Bui Thi Huy Hop suggested that the two sides will conduct the development of pilot cooperation projects/activities in line with the priority orientations of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and in line with the wises and capability of IRD in near future time.

At the end of the working session, the two sides agreed on the working contents and enhanced the sharing of information and data on science and technology topics, schemes, projects, events and research and development tasks, applying creative ideas in connecting and forming a science and technology network for the purpose of sustainable development, jointly exchanging and organizing specific cooperation activities with the participation of stakeholders, especially research institutions development and local agencies and organizations./
