On the afternoon of June 14, 2024, the Center for Vietnam Science and Technology Internationalization Promotion (VISTIP) welcomed and worked with the delegation of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce led by the Founder cum President – Dr. Cindy Shao.
Attending in the meeting, there were Ms. Jill Martin – President of the University of North America (UoNA) and Mr. Sean Lam – ASEAN Program Chair, International Business Committee of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce. On the Vietnamese side, there were Mrs. Bui Thi Huy Hop – Deputy Director in Charge and representatives of relevant departments of VISTIP.

Beginning the meeting, Mrs. Bui Thi Huy Hop warmly welcomed the Asian American Chamber of Commerce’s delegation to visit and work with VISTIP. This was the result of the information exchange process and the desire to cooperate between the two sides with the support of the US-Vietnam Business Council (UVBC). Representatives of the two sides shared about the functions, tasks and activities’ highlights, as well as their goals and plans in the next period. Both side recognized that there is a lot of potentials for cooperation in the coming time.

During the meeting, UoNA President – Ms. Jill Martin briefly introduced the University and looked forward to developing cooperation activities with Vietnamese partners. UoNA, headquartered in Washington DC, offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business, computer science, and information technology which are accredited by NECHE (New England Commission of Higher Education – the organization is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) as an institutional accrediting agency and serves as a trusted and independent voice in the quality of higher education). The UoNA’s goals are to create a learner – centered environment that is accessible to individuals of different ages, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds; develop educational programs that associate theory with practice and instill in students the spirit of applied learning.
Vietnam is promoting comprehensive digital transformation in all fields, actively integrating deeply into the international community; and improving the capacity of information technology and digital technology for workers are very necessary. Typical technologies of digital transformation such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, automation, blockchain and diverse digital technologies are UoNA’s strengths. At the present time, VISTIP has been conducting research projects and practical applications of digital transformation. Typical research such as the application of AI GreenDoctor for longan trees in Hung Yen, and some other crops in the North; the topic of digital transformation in digital transformation activities at VISTIP… demonstrating VISTIP’s initiative in the digital transformation process.
At the meeting, participants spent a lot of time discussing specifically issues of mutual interest such as organizing/ receiving working delegations for organizations/ individuals who demand to learn/ transfer advanced technologies; designing and providing short-term training courses/ study tours on information technology, digital transformation, project management, innovation management in the United States for businesses… These programs need to be appropriate in terms of time and needs of each specific subject. The delegation is committed to collaborate to design appropriate programs based on the proposals from VISTIP.

On behalf of the delegation, Dr. Cindy Shao thanked VISTIP for taking the time to receive and answer in detail issues concerning by the delegation’s members.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Bui Thi Huy Hop reaffirmed that VISTIP as a R & D organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology, performs the functions in the field of science and technology internationalization promotion of Vietnam, is always ready to accompany and actively support research activities, connecting cooperation between the domestic and international scientific communities. The cooperation with the Asian American Chamber of Commerce and UoNA will provide more channels of trainings, contribute to improve the Vietnam’s capacity for science and technology integration. Through the delegation, Mrs. Hop also thanked UVBC’s board of directors for supporting the meeting’s arrangement./.
